Window decals that are applied to store front windows can be manufactured and installed out of adhesive backed vinyl and applied the interior or exterior of the glass.  In order to determine the size of your Logo, graphics, text, and phone number you must draw a hand sketch a design of all the store front windows including the entrance door if it has one.  Measure each window height and width and write them down on the sketch.  Once this is done you have to determine how much square feet of window coverage you want to cover.  You do not want your graphics and text to look to overwhelming and unprofessional.  

On the door centered about eye level people usually put their name, logo, hours of operation, and phone number. This is usually done in smaller type font, easy to read font type, and in the color of white.  Hours of operation is meant for the people who come to the door or want to get more information.  This is not meant for people to see farther than 10-15’ away.  The space allocated on the window door is usually between 18” w x 24” h or less.  This size is a bit large for most professional type businesses such as doctors or attorney offices.  Professional businesses should go with 18” w x 18” h or, 12” x 18”, or 12” x 12” for the logo and hours of operation. This is a more traditional classy size.

In order to determine how big to make the text and graphics for the main store front windows you first need to know if there are any rules or regulations in the city you belong regarding window signage.  Most towns and cities have rules and guidelines that can be found by calling the local building department or going to your towns building department website.  In most cases you will find these regulations listed under signage.  They will provide guidelines for outside signs, monument style signs, storefront signage, and window signs.  They usually will allow up to a certain amount of square feet based on a percentage of the total area.  You can calculate the window total area by referring back to your hand sketch of the store front and doors.  Multiply the height and width of each window size and add them together to determine the total area in square feet.  Say that that your city ordinance allows up to 25% of your total area then all you need now is  multiply .25 x your total area.  This will now be the total square feet you are allowed for window signage.  This will be the amount you can use for pertinent window signage.
